Minister for Finance reviews rehabilitation measures for TDPs, flood affectees

Federal Minister for Finance, Ishaq Dar chaired a meeting here on Saturday to review the rehabilitation measures for TDPs in KP and flood affectees in Punjab and AJK.

Secretary EAD highlighted key facts on FATA-TDPs return saying the process had already started and that the Government had released Rs 1.5 billion for cash transfers to the returnees. In the first phase, FATA Secretariat is providing each returning family one time Rs.10, 000/- for transportation and one time Rs 25,000/- for subsistence. The payment is being made through SIM verification followed by NADRA verification.

Secretary EAD further said that return of 336,762 families of FATA would be undertaken in five phases  from March 2015 to December 2016. The Minister was apprised that total expenditure on rehabilitation of TDPs and security is estimated as US$ 1.72 billion.

The Minister was also briefed about the assistance for flood affectees in Punjab and AJK. The Minister was informed about the Pakistan Fund for Disaster Management which is envisaged to support priority rehabilitation and reconstruction needs. The Fund would enhance rehabilitation and reconstruction of all phases of disaster management cycle. The Fund is structured with funding from Government, development partners and international philanthropy. The Minister was informed that total DNA estimates for flood affectees stood at close to USD 260 million.

The Minister after the detailed briefing, directed the Secretary EAD to further firm up details and present him an updated report on rehabilitation measures for TDPs and flood affectees in the next meeting to be convened within a few days.
